Top 10 Things To Do
To Get Ready For Kindergarten

1. READ to your child every day!
2. Practice the sounds of language by listening/talking about words that rhyme
3. Practice the alphabet by pointing out letters and their sounds
4. Allow your child to cut with scissors and use crayons and pencils to form a comfortable grip
5. Help your child to recognize their name and practice writing their name with only first letter capitalized (ex. Sarah, not SARAH)
6. Review names of colors and shapes when the opportunity is available
7. Practice counting objects and counting by memory
8. Practice self-help skills (buttoning, zipping, tying shoes, using the bathroom on own, etc.)
9. Help your child develop social skills (listening, sharing, following 3 step directions, etc.)
10. Children should learn to identify their own and others feelings and solve problems by thinking through possible solutions
