School meals feed the future!

New regulations beginning 2012

Please note new regulations require students to take 1/2 cup fruit or vegetable at lunch for the meal to be complete.

 

Goals of the Nutrition Program

  • To uphold the health and well being of the children of ISD 15
  • To provide one-third of the Recommended Daily Allowance of nutrients for calories, protein, vitamins,  calcium, and iron over a five day period
  • To increase the fiber content of meals by offering more complex carbohydrates such as whole grain bread products and fresh fruits and vegetables
  • To decrease the fat content from calories to 30 percent or less and no more than 10 percent of those calories from saturated fat over a five day period

Nutrition Education

Nutrition Services supports the Wellness Committee initiatives by providing healthy school meals and snacks to the students of ISD 15.

Nutrition Tidbits

Iron is a mineral found in every cell of the body. Iron is considered an essential mineral because it is needed to make part of blood cells.  The human body needs iron to make the oxygen-carrying proteins hemoglobin and myoglobin. Iron is found in foods like meat, cereal, pretzels, rice, raisins.
