Food Recycling

ISD 15 elementary schools participate in a recycling program that sends cafeteria food waste to Barthold Farms, located in St. Francis. The program saves the district money by reducing garbage waste and therefore collection fees. It gives students an opportunity to help the environment and their community. Recycling keeps our schools clean and fresh by reducing odor and pest problems at our loading docks because recycling barrels are emptied more frequently than garbage barrels.

Sharing Table

The EBCS and SFE cafeterias also have a sharing table where students can put any unopened, wrapped items that they are not able to eat. Any student who is still hungry can choose items from the sharing table.

Nutrition Tidbits

from ISD 15 Nutrition Services

Iron is a mineral found in every cell of the body. Iron is considered an essential mineral because it is needed to make part of blood cells.  The human body needs iron to make the oxygen-carrying proteins hemoglobin and myoglobin. Iron is found in foods like meat, cereal, pretzels, rice, raisins.
