434 Early Entry Into Kindergarten
Parents/guardian of children who will turn five (5) years old between September 2 and October 31 may submit application materials on or before March 1 of the prior school year to have students considered for the fall kindergarten class.
II. EARLY ENTRANCE
Early admission is not encouraged but application will be considered for those children who meet all of the following requirements:
Regulation 1: Consideration for early entry will be given to those children who will be five years of age before November 1 of that given school year. (Proof of the child’s birth date will be required.)
Regulation 2: A request for application materials will be made to the building principal.
Application materials include:
A. Early Entry Application
B. Early childhood screening results
C. Letter of reference from preschool or other group setting teacher
D. Copy of birth certificate
Completed application materials will be submitted to the building principal on or before March 1 of the prior school year. Late applications will not be accepted.
Regulation 3: After receipt and review of application materials, building principal will mail parent/guardian further assessment requirements necessary for early entry consideration on or before March 15 of the prior school year.
Assessment requirements include:
A. An individual intellectual evaluation must be conducted by a licensed psychologist of the parent/guardian’s choice and at the parent/guardian’s expense.
B. Only the Kaufman ABC or the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI) will be accepted as a satisfactory assessment.
C. The results of the test must be forwarded to the building principal of the school in which your child might attend.
D. Eligibility for ISD 15 early entry requires IQ score of 125 or higher on one of the above listed assessment.
E. Parents will submit required assessment documentation on or before May 15 of the prior school year. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Regulation 4: After review of application materials and assessment documentation of an IQ score of 125 or higher, building principal will schedule meeting to include an academic and social evaluation of child with school staff.
Regulation 5: Final determination regarding early entry will be made by the building principal after receipt of all of the aforementioned data and will be considered final. A letter notifying parent/guardian will be mailed by building principal on or before June 1 of the prior school year.
