2018 St. Francis Football Season Recap

The St. Francis High School teams recently completed a competitive and successful 2018 season. The 9th grade team lost a few close contests and finished the season with a 1-7 record. The JV team finished their season 4-3. The varsity team started a little sluggish with a 1-2 start but finished tied for 2nd in the District at 5-2 in league play. It was an exciting season with five of the eight regular season games being decided by 4 points or less, with two of those games being decided in overtime.

With a balanced offensive attack, the Saints were lead by a veteran offensive line that helped pave the way for 1356 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns on the ground. The Saints were lead by Senior QB Taylor Aho's 1262 yards passing and completing 60% of his throws on the season. Defensively, Junior LB Andrew Hoglund paced the team in tackles, including 19 against Elk River and Senior LB Cody Kolb lead the team with 3 interceptions. The special teams unit featured All-Metro Junior punter/kicker Hunter Dustman. Dustman averaged 40 yards per punt, 16 touchbacks on kickoffs, 7 for 10 on fields goals including 2 misses from 52 yards.

The Saints fell to the Andover Huskies 28-14 in the semi-finals of the section tournament to end the 2018 season. The Saints had a balanced offensive attack and played great team defense throughout the season. With a number of key players returning on offense, defense and special teams, the Saints hope to continue the positive momentum of 2018 into the 2019 season. The Saints officially ended their 2018 campaign with the team banquet on Tuesday, November 13th. Here are some of the individuals who were recognized for their efforts during the 2018 season.
