National School Walkout Day • April 20
Posted 04/18/2018 05:47PM

As many of you know, students from schools around the state and nation have organized protests and walked out of school this spring to demonstrate support for safer schools.

St. Francis Area Schools is aware of an upcoming event scheduled for Friday, April 20. The National School Walkout Day marks the 19th anniversary of the Columbine school shooting. St. Francis Area Schools neither sponsors nor promotes these events but encourages parents/guardians to have intentional conversations with their children regarding possible attendance and participation.

On Friday, April 20, staff are expect to continue their regularly scheduled activities. School rules apply and district policy will be followed. To parents/guardians, if your child chooses to participate in the walkout and leaves campus grounds on April 20, this will result in an unexcused absence unless you call or provide a note prior.

Staff members throughout our district strive to provide students a safe place to express their opinions and reactions without fear of judgment. In some cases, teachers may incorporate current events into lesson plans to provide a safe space to discuss tough societal events.

If you have any questions, please call your building administration.
