As part of St. Francis Area Schools' branding efforts, four buildings will be renamed.
- Cedar Creek Community School will become Cedar Creek Elementary School
- East Bethel Community School will become East Bethel Elementary School
- Crossroads School and Vocational Center will become St. Francis Learning Center
- Central Services Office will become St. Francis Area Schools District Office
Presenting at the July 23 school board meeting, Community Education Director Lisa Rahn explained how the Superintendent Branding Select Committee came to these decisions. The Superintendent Branding Select Committee includes the superintendent, a school board member and the directors of communications, community education and activities/athletics.
In addition to being consistent with the name of the St. Francis Elementary School, the community school name did not meet the definition of a partnership with school and other community resources.
"By definition, a community school is a partnership between the school and other community resources, which may include family support and social services, health services and things like that," Rahn told the board. "As such, we really don't meet that definition. So it makes more sense for us to move in the direction of an elementary school."
This fall, Adult Basic Education in St. Francis Area Schools will move from the Lifelong Learning Center to Crossroads School & Vocational Center, which also houses Saints Academy, Saints Online and Transition 15. The Crossroads building will now be named St. Francis Learning Center, which better reflects the programs housed there and aligns with the names of other school district buildings located in the city of St. Francis.
Finally, Central Services Office will revert back to St. Francis Area Schools District Office. Many community members and staff still refer to the building as the District Office, making that change more natural, Rahn said.
Superintendent Troy Ferguson confirmed the district would change the building names on items as they need replacement.
The motion to approval the branding committee's recommendations passed 6-1, with Schoenrock opposing the motion.
