Beth Giese to take the reins at St. Francis Area Schools

Beth Giese

With a contract approved at the January 14 school board meeting, Beth Giese will officially become the new superintendent of St. Francis Area Schools on July 1.

"We were impressed with Beth's qualifications and her enthusiasm she demonstrated for the district," said School Board Chairman Mike Starr. "The caliber of candidates we interviewed was impressive, and Beth really stood out."

Likewise, Giese was impressed with the district.

"In my opinion, St. Francis Area Schools is a top-tier school district: amazing teachers, dedicated administrators, a community that cares and a school board that is making things happen," Giese said. "I am truly humbled to be a part of this team."

Giese comes to the district from Cannon Falls Area Schools, where she served as the superintendent there since 2011. She brings with her more than two decades of educational leadership and teaching experience. Additionally, Giese served in the United States Army Reserve for 12 years.

Giese attended college at the University of Nebraska, majoring in elementary education and special education, later receiving master's degrees from Winona State University and St. Mary's University. She was awarded the Kay Jacob's Award in 2015 and the Administrator of Excellence Award in 2017. Additionally, she is one of 3 percent of all superintendents nationally that have the AASA, The School Superintendents Association, National Superintendent Certification.

"I am overwhelmed by how welcoming the community and St. Francis Area School staff has been," Giese said. "I already feel like I am a Saint!"

St. Francis Area Schools began their superintendent search last fall, following current Superintendent Troy Ferguson's announcement he was resigning his post, effective June 30, 2019. The school board, with the help of professional search group School Exec Connect, gathered feedback from the school and community through surveys last fall, which School Exec Connect created a profile to use to narrow the pool of applicants to six candidates. After interviews were held in December, Giese and two other finalists moved forward for final interviews held later in the month.

With her contract approved at the January 14 school board meeting, Giese's official first day as superintendent is July 1.
